YouTube Editing Music Workflow

My step-by-step workflow for choosing licensed music in Audiio while editing YouTube videos — keeping pacing tight, monetisation safe and storytelling consistent across uploads.

I’m Simon Songhurst — a professional photographer, filmmaker and YouTube creator. This page reflects how I actually integrate music into tutorial edits, travel videos and creator content without slowing down the edit process.

Why Music Workflow Matters on YouTube

Consistency is key when building a YouTube channel. The right music choice supports pacing, viewer retention and overall polish — while licensed tracks protect monetisation. My workflow focuses on choosing music early and building edits around natural transitions rather than forcing tracks into finished timelines.

Step 1 — Define the Editing Energy

Before opening Audiio, I decide whether a video needs calm background atmosphere, cinematic builds or energetic pacing. This helps narrow searches and keeps editing decisions focused.

Step 2 — Build Playlists for Different Video Styles

I keep separate music playlists for tutorials, cinematic edits and talking-head videos. Over time this becomes a reusable system that speeds up editing across multiple channels and keeps branding consistent.

Step 3 — Edit With Musical Transitions

Instead of cutting purely to the beat, I focus on builds and transitions within a track. This allows natural scene changes while maintaining a professional cinematic flow that feels intentional rather than templated.

Step 4 — Protect Monetisation and Licensing

Using properly licensed music ensures videos stay monetised long term. Having one central music library removes uncertainty when older uploads start gaining new traction months or years later.
