Shoot cable-free into Capture One for iPad — setup, settings, and workflow tips.
In this video I demonstrate how to wirelessly tether your Sony a7R IV (and other compatible cameras) into Capture One for iPad. Tethering to iPad speeds up solo shoots, lets clients review images instantly, and gives you greater mobility when shooting on set or location.
I start with the traditional cabled method: plugging the camera into the iPad via USB. With Capture One running, the iPad immediately acquires the connection. Configure your camera’s PC Remote settings for USB, ensure images save both to iPad and cards, and select RAW file transfer for speed and quality. This is ideal when moving large files like the 61MP frames from the Sony A7R IV.
Next I walk through wireless tethering. Switching PC Remote to WiFi Direct, I send JPEG previews to the iPad while RAWs remain mirrored on dual cards. This setup is perfect for client viewing — hand the iPad to them while you keep shooting through the EVF, confident your images are safe on the camera.
This workflow has become essential for me. It’s flexible, quick to set up, and adds huge value for both solo and client-driven shoots. And with Capture One announcing an iPhone version, the possibilities for lightweight mobile tethering are only growing.
