DxO Smart Lighting Explained (Spot Weighted Mode)

Smart Lighting intelligently balances exposure across the image. When used correctly, it preserves highlights, lifts shadows and adds natural depth without flattening contrast.

What Smart Lighting Does

It analyses faces and key regions to create a balanced exposure, reducing harsh contrasts and bringing important details forward.

Why It’s Powerful

Unlike standard exposure tools, Smart Lighting understands scene intent, preventing blown highlights and muddy shadows.

How to Use Smart Lighting

Step 1 — Choose Spot Weighted Mode

Click on important areas (faces, products, subjects). DxO prioritises these regions.

Step 2 — Adjust the Strength Slider

Low values keep things natural. Higher values lift shadows and compress highlights.

Step 3 — Combine with Selective Tone

Fine-tune highlight and shadow balance for a polished, professional look.

The Result

Even, natural exposure that enhances detail and depth — ideal for portraits, street, editorial and travel photography.
