and human presence.

Simon Songhurst is an interiors and lifestyle photographer working in London and internationally. He creates imagery for hotel groups, hospitality brands, architects, interior designers and travel clients, connecting the design of a place with the way it is experienced.

His 25 years of photographic experience inform a considered approach to light, composition and atmosphere. This portfolio brings together architectural views, interior studies, material details and people on location, with a visual direction suited to advertising campaigns, brand communications and editorial commissions.

Discuss an interiors or lifestyle brief ↗

Interiors, architecture & lifestyle

A coherent view of a place.

A place is understood through more than a single wide photograph. The relationship between rooms, the way daylight meets a surface and the presence of a person can each contribute to its identity. A well-considered commission brings these perspectives together without treating the interior, the building and the experience as separate subjects.

The work here moves between timber architecture, textured plaster, carefully observed furnishings and inhabited spaces. For art directors and brand teams, that range provides a basis for a connected image series: one that describes the design clearly while giving the audience a sense of its atmosphere and use.

Interiors & design

Photography for interior designers, design-led brands and hospitality spaces. Wider compositions, room relationships and material details can be planned as a coherent visual collection.

Hospitality & destinations

Campaign imagery for hotels, resorts, travel brands and destination experiences. Interiors and architecture can sit alongside casting, outdoor settings and moments that describe the guest experience.

Lifestyle campaigns

Brand-led photography on location, with studio-led concepts also open for discussion. People, setting and light are considered together in relation to the campaign’s audience and visual direction.

01 / Interior photography

Design expressed through light and detail.

Interior photography needs to describe the decisions that make a space distinctive. Proportion, the relationship between furniture and architecture, the fall of light and the character of a surface all contribute to the image. A quiet detail can be as important to a series as the principal room view.

The portfolio includes bedrooms, living spaces, bathrooms and dining interiors, alongside studies of plaster, timber, textiles and objects. For interior designers and design brands, the brief can identify the rooms and details that communicate the project most clearly, together with the role of styling and the intended editorial or commercial use.

02 / Architectural photography

Form within its surroundings.

Architectural photography considers the building in relation to its site, its light and its points of view. A glazed elevation seen through trees, an angled window from inside or a change in level can each reveal a different aspect of the design. The approach should reflect the architect’s priorities and the way the project will be presented.

Daylight and dusk can give the same structure different visual emphasis. The timber buildings and large windows in this selection show how exterior and interior views can connect within a series. Access, orientation, the surrounding landscape and the most useful times of day should be considered when planning the shoot.

03 / Hotels & hospitality brands

The setting and the experience.

A hospitality campaign can move from the architecture of a property to the atmosphere of a room and the experience of spending time there. Suites, shared spaces, outdoor areas and design details each have a role. The images need a consistent direction even when their scale or subject changes.

For hotel groups, resorts and hospitality brands, discuss the relationship between architectural coverage and campaign imagery. A considered brief can distinguish the principal property views from lifestyle scenes and supporting details, with casting, styling and the treatment of light agreed as part of the brand direction.

04 / People, location & studio

Human presence with a clear purpose.

A person can bring scale, context and expression to an interior or a location. Reading beside a window, listening to music or sitting together in a lounge can suggest how a space is used. Casting, gesture and the position of the subject should feel connected to the place rather than simply added to the frame.

For lifestyle advertising, the approach may be observational or more closely directed according to the campaign. Location-led photography can draw on an existing environment; a studio concept can offer a more controlled setting for a brand idea. Share the intended activity, casting direction, set requirements and final image use when discussing either approach.

05 / Travel & destination campaigns

A specific sense of place.

Travel and destination photography can combine landscape, architecture, accommodation and the experiences that distinguish a place. The useful starting point is specific: what should the audience understand about the destination, and which images will communicate that without relying on a familiar travel formula?

Simon’s safari-park series for Port Lympne is one example within this portfolio. It brings together the architecture and interiors of the accommodation with guests, woodland settings and views of wildlife beyond the viewing barriers. The broader commissioning approach applies to destinations with their own distinct design, setting and guest experience.

06 / Advertising & editorial

A series planned for its purpose.

Brand campaigns, design features and hospitality launches call for different image selections. An editorial sequence may move between an establishing view and a small material detail. A campaign may require a clear principal image supported by interiors, exterior views and directed lifestyle scenes.

Print advertising, brochures, brand websites, retail environments, outdoor placements and digital campaigns need to be considered at the briefing stage. Layouts, space for copy and required portrait or landscape formats help define the compositions. The aim is a coherent set of photographs planned for the finished work rather than a collection of unrelated views.

Share your creative direction ↗

Commissioning the photography

Creative intent and practical planning.

Share the project, the intended audience and the purpose of the images. Architectural drawings, a design narrative, location references or an initial campaign treatment can help establish the direction. Identify the spaces, views and experiences that matter most, and whether people should feature in the work.

The practical plan should account for access, daylight, operating schedules, styling, casting and any team already attached. Include the location, preferred dates, budget range and required deliverables, together with the proposed media, territories and usage duration. These details provide a framework for the photographic response.

The project

Brand or design identity, the spaces involved and the intended audience. Include architectural priorities, key details and the role of the surrounding landscape.

The production

Location, access, dates and operating requirements. Share any casting, styling, set design or production arrangements already in place and which decisions remain open.

The finished imagery

Image count, layouts, output specifications and the balance of interiors, exteriors, detail and lifestyle. Confirm media, territories and usage period alongside the brief.

Commissioning questions

Can one commission include interiors, architecture and lifestyle?

Yes. The portfolio brings these subjects together. Share the balance you need between architectural coverage, interior views, detail and people, so the brief can establish a consistent visual direction.

Do you work with hotel groups and travel brands?

Hotel, resort, hospitality and travel-brand briefs can all be discussed. Include the destination, campaign context, intended media and the spaces or experiences the imagery needs to communicate.

Can the brief be location-based or studio-led?

Yes. Location work can draw on an existing setting, while a studio-led lifestyle concept can be considered around a controlled set and casting direction. Share the treatment, production requirements and intended output.

Where does Simon work?

Simon works in London and internationally and is based between London and Italy. Include the location, proposed dates and access requirements when enquiring about a commission.
