Quick answer

Compatibility usually comes down to your camera RAW format and whether DxO has a profile for your lens + camera combo. The fastest way to know is to install PureRAW, open one of your RAW files, and see if it offers the optical module for your kit.

What “optical modules” actually mean

DxO uses camera/lens-specific correction profiles (optical modules). When supported, PureRAW can apply corrections that help clean up distortion, vignetting, softness and other optical issues before you edit.

Lens-specific corrections

Corrections are built for specific lenses (often even at different focal lengths), so results can look more accurate than generic profiles.

Camera-aware processing

RAW noise and detail behaviour varies by sensor. Support means processing is tuned to your camera’s RAW characteristics.

Cleaner starting file

You’re not fixing issues later with extra masking. The file begins cleaner and more “finished” before your creative edit.

How to check if your camera and lens are supported

Step 1 — Test with a real RAW file

Open a RAW file from your camera inside PureRAW. This is the quickest reality check because it’s based on your actual files.

Best check: use a recent shoot

Step 2 — Look for the optical module prompt

If your camera/lens combo is supported, PureRAW will typically offer to download or enable the optical module for that combination.

If prompted: you’re supported

Step 3 — Confirm for every key lens

Support can vary by lens. Test your most-used lenses (wide, standard, tele) so you know your main workflow is covered.

Check your top 3 lenses

Step 4 — Use DxO’s official supported gear list

DxO maintains an official list of supported cameras and lenses. Use it as the final confirmation if you’re buying specifically for one kit.

Use official list as backup

If your lens isn’t supported

Don’t panic — it doesn’t automatically mean PureRAW is useless.

  • If your camera RAW is supported, you may still benefit from the noise reduction and base-file improvements.
  • If your lens combo isn’t supported, you may miss some lens-specific corrections. You can still correct lens issues later in Lightroom if needed.
  • If you rely heavily on one specific lens for paid work, it’s worth confirming support before you commit.

FAQs

Is support based on camera only, or camera + lens?

Both can matter. Camera support affects the RAW pipeline, and camera + lens combinations can unlock lens-specific optical modules.

Do I need an optical module for every lens I own?

No. Prioritise the lenses you actually use. If your favourite travel/street lens is supported, you’re in a great place.
